Tatler Magazine Editorial - 2010

Lynette Kelly runs her bespoke wedding flowers business Little Daisy Flowers from a comfortable studio in Skerries, County Dublin.

Lynette’s floral arrangements are inspired by seasons, the bride – her dress, personality and taste. She offers a complimentary consultation to brides and grooms in a relaxed atmosphere. After the consultation, she can create a mood board for them, showing the colour of the dress and the colour of the flowers that best match it. This gives couples a glimpse of the final result. Lynette then orders the flowers from Holland and arranges them, trimming the bouquets with lace ribbon or whatever desired. Vendela and Avalanche roses are perennial favourites. This year, people are looking for a splash of colour, with blue and purple and coral blooms.

Now in her third wedding season, she has seen her business increase by 50% in the past year. This year she was delighted to achieve Florist of the Year Award with Real Weddings.ie and in February 2010, she made the shortlist of Weddings Online’s Top Wedding Suppliers in Ireland. Most of her business is generated through referrals, but she is also attracting international clients through her website. She hopes to continue building the success she has created over the past three years.

A: L Daisy - If you find a florist you really like don’t wait around make a provisional booking with them to secure your date as some florists can be booked a year in advance. Organise to meet with your florist in person .

Ask around referrals are a great way to find the florist for you, if you are still unsure ask your florist for some references. Browse through bridal magazines or the internet is also a great research tool. Keep notes or a wedding journal of your favourite pictures and a swatch of material if possible you can bring these with your to show your florist.

Quality is very important, ensure your florist is giving you the best quality flowers for your special day. Good customer service is also important if possible try to deal with the same person all the way through. Make sure you receive everything in writing outlining what flowers will be used in your bouquets and arrangements and everything is itemised. It should also be clear where the flowers are to be delivered. If there are any delivery, and /or additional set up costs. You should also receive a receipt for any deposits paid.
